The Best Ways to Keep Kids Hydrated in the Summer

Mar 27, 2022

It is very important for kids to keep hydrated in summers or else it can give birth to many problems and in the long term, the risk of various complications can rise.

But it is difficult to track the water-drinking habits of your kid.

So what can be done? How can the water deficiency be filled with the help of water, or other fluid and solid intakes?

Following are a few ways by which water deficiency can be rectified with easy ways of intake for kids:

Water

Yes it is difficult to make kids drink water in regular intervals, but if you attract them with fancy straws and cups, it can make a change.

Teach and aware your child from a young age how important it is to drink water, and also carry out the same practice in front of them. This way they’ll watch and learn.

Also, encourage your kids to drink water with intervals in schools and outdoor places where they are on their own.

When they reach a certain age, it is sensible to teach your child the indication for dehydration which is the yellowing of urine. This will make them more conscious about their own water intake.

Salads

Many fruits have major water content percentages in them due to which they can be a good alternative to fill in for water.

Fruits like watermelons, peaches, strawberries, etc with cucumbers are known to have maximum water content and hence their intake can be beneficial to keep hydrated in summers.

A better way to serve these fruits to your kids is by cutting them in small shapes and preparing a salad bowl for them after their play time. This way they’ll be excited towards the shapes and their water deficiency will also cover up.

Smoothies

If your child doesn’t enjoy eating solid fruits, you can prepare juices and smoothies of their pulp and give them to your kids.

Often these drinks attract kids and this way they develop taste reception for flavours while their water requirements are also being met. A few simple smoothies are listed below:

  • Watermelon smoothie
  • Strawberry milkshake
  • Peanut butter and banana smoothie
  • Oreo Milkshake
  • Blueberry smoothie

Milk Intake

Kids need milk for growth but did you know that milk can also hydrate your body? Milk contains electrolytes and minerals which can fill in for the loss of electrolytes due to sweat release in kids.

Milk is a great source of hydration, but it should be kept in mind that nothing can completely fill in for the water demand of a kids’ body.

Takeaways:

Kids at the age bracket of 8 to 16 are very active so their bodies lose a lot of their body fluid and minerals through sweating. In summers, their body needs to rehydrate in order to maintain the osmotic balance in the body.

The habit of drinking water should be built in kids at a young age to make them aware about the effect low water levels have on their body.

If your child doesn’t like drinking water, you can prepare salads and smoothies of fruits, especially the ones that have high water content in them.

Milk is also beneficial in the rehydration of the body after a sunny day.

It should be remembered that there’s no replacement for water in our bodies. Hence, it is advisable that you impart regular water drinking habits in your kids at a young age to save them from serious kidney issues in the future.
