Why Bike Training

Biking and scooting is more than just fun — it builds physical fitness, coordination, confidence, and real-world independence. Kids develop teamwork, problem-solving, and resilience every time they ride. Plus, they actually want to come back the next day.

FAQ

What is early drop off and late pick up like?

Camp runs 9-5 with early drop for an additional charge. You can arrive anytime from 8AM on. We are working on a late pick up, or rather a late drop off, where we bring the kids home to you anytime between 5:15-6. We’ll discuss a time that works for you. This is for athletes that live in LIC near the gym (waterfront and court square area)

Is there a sibling discount?

There is a 10% sibling discount.

Do you do field trips?

We are a field trip-based camp. We spend about 85% of the day outside! Weekly trips to Governors Island and Domino Park. Other trips include Roosevelt Island, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Astoria Park, McCarren Park & McGorlick Park.

What is the activities schedule?

Stewardship is also a big part of our camps. We attend weekly sessions with Connected Chef, learning about food and where it comes from, composting, and helping pack life line groceries to battle food insecurity in our own communities.

We also partner with the LIC Historical Society to learn about our neighborhoods and the past and future of our communities through kid-friendly walking tours.

Don’t worry, art is also an important expression for us. Tie-Dying is a must and kids have access to art supplies to spur their creativity.

We end the day back at the gym for more free play, swinging on the ropes and rings, building forts, playing games, and general decompression before pick-up.

Do you provide lunch/snack?

Athletes must bring their own lunches, water bottles, snacks, and a back pack to carry them in.

Do you provide bikes?

Athletes must have a bike or a scooter and a helmet each day. No need for locks, one coach is on bike duty!

We bike/scoot on the sidewalk, stopping at every corner. We can cover up to 3-7 miles each day, but don’t worry it’s broken up and we aren’t biking for extended periods of time. We want everyone to have fun and come back after all!

Can my child bring their phone so I can get in touch with them?

We are technology-free. You are welcome to track your child, but we ask that it is in their backpack and stay there for the entire day. In an effort to build trust between our staff and parents as well as your child and our staff, communication should be with Gantry Kids staff, not with your child directly. We are also not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged devices.

What is the coach:student ratio?

Our coaches have been with us for 2-3 years and are CPR/AED and First Aid certified. We have a strict 6:1 athlete to coach ratio, which often is 5:1. Our founder is an attorney and takes safety incredibly seriously. Each day we go over biking and scooting rules and practice roll call.

What if it's too hot?
Oh and we know it gets HOT out there!  Almost every day the kids can hit the fountains at whatever playground we are visiting! We also incorporate water balloons and plenty of cooling off activities!

We are also working on our pool permit so the kids can take a swim once a week!

AND...
Each athlete gets a Gantry Kids logo T-shirt!

Summer Camp is a time to create memories, be outside and experience nature and everything our great city has to offer! Take a step back and let the kids dive into the best summer of their life.
